Dr. Alex Nielsen

Hip & Knee Orthopedic Specialist
Fellowship-Trained in Joint Reconstruction Surgery

Dr. Alexander Nielsen is a proud Wisconsin native, born and raised in the close-knit rural community of Waterford. With an early fascination for how things work—especially the human body—he pursued a B.S. in Neuroscience at the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities before returning home to complete both medical school and orthopedic surgery residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Following residency, Dr. Nielsen honed his expertise through a fellowship in joint reconstruction surgery, specializing in hip and knee replacements, as well as the management of lower extremity trauma and soft tissue injuries of the hip and knee. He finds deep purpose in helping restore mobility and quality of life for patients of all ages, with a special focus on older adults and underserved populations.

Known for his compassionate and thoughtful approach, Dr. Nielsen brings both skill and sincerity to every patient interaction. Outside of the operating room, he’s just as passionate about perfecting a homemade meal, exploring the outdoors, diving into strategy games, and spending meaningful time with friends and family.
